The Peugeot 306 is a compact car that was produced by the French automaker Peugeot between 1993 and 2002. It was launched as a replacement for the Peugeot 309 and was designed to compete with other popular European models such as the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Escort, and Opel Astra.

The car was designed by Pininfarina, the renowned Italian design house, and was based on the same platform as the Citroen ZX.

The Peugeot 306 was first introduced to the market in 1993, with a range of petrol and diesel engines, as well as several body styles including a hatchback, sedan, and wagon. The car was well-received by the public and the media, winning the prestigious European Car of the Year award in 1994.

Over the years, the Peugeot 306 underwent several updates and revisions, including the addition of new engines, improved safety features, and cosmetic changes to the exterior and interior. In 1997, a high-performance version called the Peugeot 306 GTi-6 was introduced, featuring a 2.0-liter engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

Despite its popularity, the Peugeot 306 was eventually phased out in 2002, and was replaced by the Peugeot 307. However, the car remains a popular choice among enthusiasts and collectors, and is often praised for its practicality, reliability, and sporty driving characteristics.
