The Toyota mk1 MR2, also known as the AW11, was a sports car produced by Toyota from 1984 to 1989. It was Toyota's first mid-engine production car and was designed to compete with other popular sports cars of the time such as the Mazda RX-7 and the Pontiac Fiero.
The MR2 was initially powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine that produced 112 horsepower. It was available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. In 1986, Toyota introduced the supercharged version of the MR2, which increased the horsepower to 145.
The MR2 was praised for its excellent handling and balance, as well as its affordability compared to other sports cars. It was also known for its distinctive wedge-shaped design, with a sharp nose and a sloping rear.
However, the MR2 faced some criticism for its lack of power, especially compared to its competitors. Toyota attempted to address this by introducing the supercharged version, but it was still not as powerful as some of its rivals.
Despite this, the MR2 remains a popular and iconic sports car to this day, with a dedicated following of enthusiasts. Its unique design and excellent handling continue to make it a sought-after vehicle for collectors and drivers alike.
