The Ford GT40 is a legendary racing car that was designed and built in the 1960s to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The project was initiated by Henry Ford II after failed negotiations to acquire Ferrari in 1963.

Ford tasked a team led by British engineer Roy Lunn to create a car capable of winning at Le Mans. The car was named GT40 for its height of 40 inches (1.02 m). The team faced numerous challenges, including finding the right engine and testing the car's durability.

The first GT40s were powered by a 4.2-liter V8 engine, but it was later replaced by a 7.0-liter V8. The car's sleek design and powerful engine made it a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack.

In 1966, the GT40 finally achieved its goal of beating Ferrari at Le Mans, taking first, second, and third place. The GT40 went on to win the race for the next three years, cementing its place in racing history.

Today, the Ford GT40 is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, with some models selling for millions of dollars at auction. In 2005, Ford reintroduced the GT as a limited-production supercar, paying homage to the iconic racing car that had brought the company so much success in the past.
