The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was a muscle car produced by General Motors from 1969 to 2002. The car was introduced as a performance version of the Firebird, and was named after the Trans-Am racing series.

The first-generation Trans Am was introduced in 1969, and was equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 335 horsepower. The second-generation Trans Am, produced from 1970 to 1981, featured a more aggressive styling, and was powered by a variety of V8 engines, including a 6.6-liter unit producing 220 horsepower.

In 1982, Pontiac introduced the third-generation Trans Am, which featured a more aerodynamic design and was powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine. In 1985, the company introduced a new 5.7-liter V8 engine, which produced 210 horsepower.

In 1987, Pontiac introduced the fourth-generation Trans Am, which was powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 190 horsepower. In 1993, the company introduced a new 5.7-liter V8 engine, which produced 275 horsepower.

The fifth-generation Trans Am, produced from 1998 to 2002, featured a more modern design and was powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 305 horsepower. In 2002, General Motors discontinued the Pontiac brand, which led to the end of the Trans Am's production.

The Trans Am has become an icon in American automotive history, and has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, most notably in the 1977 movie "Smokey and the Bandit". Today, the Trans Am remains a popular collector's item among muscle car enthusiasts.
